Students Vote 72% In Favor of Divestment
An overwhelming majority of students voted to support the divestment of Harvard’s $30.7 billion endowment during the 2012 Undergraduate Council elections held from November 13-16.
Fossil fuel divestment was the first referendum question to qualify for UC elections in six years. The Divest Harvard campaign secured hundreds of petition signatures beyond the 670 signatures (representing 10% of the undergraduate student body) necessary for qualification.
The passage of the referendum makes fossil fuel divestment the official position of the Harvard Undergraduate Council.
